The Village Soho – Wardour Street
Two floors, and the whole evening
The Village was a landmark gay bar on Wardour Street through the 1990s and 2000s – two floors, friendly, mixed, slightly camp. An earlier Village Soho operated at 54 Greek Street, above where Soho House later opened; the Wardour Street venue became the better known of the two.
Together the two Villages bookended an era of gay Soho when the community was concentrated enough that you could trace it bar to bar across an area you could walk in twenty minutes. The Village closed as part of the broader attrition of Soho’s LGBT venues. You came for a drink and stayed for the evening – that was always the plan.
