The Podium / Club Colosseum
Market Towers · after-hours home of Beyond
In the base of Market Towers on Nine Elms Lane – the venue the local scene knew as the Podium, and later as Club Colosseum – was one of Vauxhall’s great after-hours rooms. It hosted the big marathon gay nights, Beyond above all: dancefloors that ran long past dawn, with a sense of collective release that defined the era’s clubbing.
When Market Towers was pulled down in the Nine Elms redevelopment, it took both this club and the Market Tavern with it – erasing a whole physical hub of south London’s queer nightlife in one go. But the party didn’t die: Beyond survives to this day as a monthly night at nearby Fire, a direct thread from this room to the present.
