The Little Apple
Kennington Lane · a traditional gay local
A little further along Kennington Lane from the RVT, the Little Apple was a traditional gay pub – not a superclub or an arch, but a proper local, the kind of unshowy neighbourhood boozer that gives a scene its backbone. It opened in 1993 and served the Vauxhall and Kennington community for over twenty years.
While the big arch clubs drew the crowds and the headlines, pubs like this one did the quieter work of belonging: somewhere to be a regular, to know the bar staff, to feel at home. It closed in September 2014, another of the everyday venues lost as the area changed around it.
