Sukey Bevell’s – the Mint, Southwark
The Mint, Southwark · a molly club south of the river, named in Dalton’s Narrative
South of the river, in the Mint in Southwark, stood a club that Dalton’s Narrative of 1728 calls "Sukey Bevell’s". The Mint was a notorious liberty where debtors and the poor sheltered from the reach of the law – fitting cover for a molly club. The only molly house recorded across the Thames, it shows the subculture was not confined to the City and the West End.
