The Duke of Wellington

The Duke of Wellington – known to regulars as the Welly – opened as a gay bar on 11 September 2001. The owners made a deliberate choice to open on that day rather than close: “We thought a united front was the best message.” Previously the Rat and Parrot, it became one of the most reliably welcoming pubs in Soho and has remained so.
