Rupert Street Bar

One of the anchor bars of the modern gay Soho scene, Rupert Street opened in the late 1990s and became known for its pavement terrace – one of the few places in London where being openly gay in public felt unremarkable and unhurried. In a neighbourhood of basement bars and blacked-out windows, sitting outside on Rupert Street in daylight was, for its regulars, quietly significant.
