Virginia Woolf
29 Fitzroy Square · the early Bloomsbury years
Virginia Woolf lived at 29 Fitzroy Square from 1907 to 1911 with her brother Adrian – the years in which the Bloomsbury Group took shape in rooms like these, arguing about art, love and everything else well into the night.
One of the greatest of all English novelists, she wrote Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse and A Room of One’s Own, and in Orlando paid tribute to her lover Vita Sackville-West. English Heritage’s blue plaque marks this house.
